London-born, New York City-based photographer Pamela Hanson began her career assisting Arthur Elgort in Paris, going on to capture the likes of Peggy Lipton, Gloria Steinem, Rosie Huntington-Whitely and Cindy Crawford for magazines including Vogue, Vanity Fair, and GQ. Hanson’s place as one of the first successful female fashion photographers is owed in part to the ideas behind the female gaze — as she told Artspace in 2012, “I think I established a relationship with the models that did not include any of the sexual stuff. It was and is a relationship of trust, because I am a girl myself and they can relate to me.” She has published two books: Girls in 2001, and Boys in 2006.
Below are Pamela Hanson’s favorite books, available to purchase as a set or individually.
