Jenny Saville: TOP TEN BOOKS

Portrait of Jenny Saville, 2016. Photography by A. Saville. Courtesy of the artist and Gagosian Gallery.
British-born painter Jenny Saville’s fascination with the nude female body is clearly illustrated in the tactile, fleshy, sensual oil paintings she produces in massive scale. The bodies she paints are not perfect — Saville paints every flaw, but gives each of these imperfections its own sense of beauty (it helps that the warts and all are painted nearly in the abstract). As an artist she is categorized among the Young British Artists, a group that also includes Tracey Emin and Damien Hirst. A graduate of the Glasgow School of Art in 1992, she has since exhibited, among other museums and galleries, at the Gagosian Galleries in New York and Beverly Hills, the Museo d’Arte Contemporanea in Rome, and the Royal Academy of Art.
