Rafael de Cárdenas: TOP TEN BOOKS
Rafael de Cárdenas, an architect and Manhattan native, is the founder of the firm Architecture at Large — his third act following phases in menswear and then production design. With Architecture at Large, de Cárdenas has designed several prominent spaces, including jewelry designer Delfina Delettrez’s London shop, the New York flagship of fine crystal company Baccarat, Miami’s Wynwood building, and a fresh iteration of restaurant Asia de Cuba located on the Lower East Side. His style isn’t so easy to define, but fans of his work are aware of culture’s influence on his aesthetic. As he recently told the New York Times, “I’m really, really into pop culture. Even ‘The Facts of Life’ has worked its way into my architecture.” In 2017, Rizzoli published “Rafael de Cárdenas/Architecture at Large,” a survey of his career so far.
