Nia Vardalos rose to fame with the release in 2002 of My Big Fat Greek Wedding, for which she was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Writing, a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Motion Picture Musical or Comedy, and a Screen Actors Guild Award. She is also a best-selling author — in 2013 Vardalos wrote “Instant Mom” about her experience adopting her daughter.
